5 weeks beginners throwing Course
Ready to get started with pottery? Our 5-week Beginner’s Wheel Course is perfect if you’re completely new or have only tried the wheel once or twice.
Over the course, you’ll learn the basics step by step — from centering clay and shaping simple pots to creating small bowls and cylinders. You’ll build confidence on the wheel while developing control and consistency at your own pace. We’ll also introduce you to trimming, finishing, and simple glazing techniques to decorate your pieces.
With small, friendly groups and expert guidance, you’ll get plenty of hands-on support throughout. By the end of the course, you’ll have a collection of handmade pieces to take home and a solid foundation to continue your pottery journey.
Class Information
Class time: 6:00pm - 8:00pm
Class fee: £300 per person. Includes unlimited clay and firing
Week 1 – Centering & The Basic Cylinder
Learn the foundations of wheel throwing by mastering how to center clay and create a simple cylinder — the building block for many pottery forms.
Week 2 – Trimming & Refining Your First Pots
Trim and refine the pieces you made in Week 1. Learn how to shape the base, smooth surfaces, and give your work a clean, finished look.
Week 3 – Trimming & Making Simple Forms
Continue developing your wheel skills by making cylinders and bowls, focusing on improving posture and even shapes. Trim and refine your work to improve form and finish.
Week 4 – Trimming & Developing Your Work
Build confidence by refining your throwing skills and exploring slightly more varied forms. Continue trimming to improve balance, proportion, and surface quality.
Week 5 – Glazing & Decorating
Discover easy glazing techniques and decorate your pieces, ready for their final firing.
