Our 3-day intensive course is designed for adults who want to fully immerse themselves in clay. Whether you’re a complete beginner or looking to expand your skills, this course offers focused, creative learning in both wheel throwing and hand-building techniques, with expert guidance in a relaxed studio environment.
What You’ll Learn
Day 1: Foundation Techniques
Studio orientation & how to handle clay
Introduction to the wheel: centring, pulling walls, and forming cylinders
Hand-building basics: pinch pots, coil work, joining techniques
Understanding clay properties and studio best practices
Day 2: Skill Development
Advancing wheel throwing: bowls, shaping, trimming, and form development
Hand-building: slab work, texturing, and creating functional or decorative forms
Introduction to surface decoration techniques: stamping, carving, slips
Optional self-directed project time with tutor support
Day 3: Glazing & Finishing
Glazing overview: glaze types, techniques, and good practice
Glazing selected pieces using studio glazes
Final trimming, refining, or decorating
Q&A and group reflection over a cup of tea
INCLUDES: Complementary coffees and teas throughout the course.
You will need to bring a packed lunch each day.
Your finished work will be fired and ready to collect approximately 6 weeks later.
Postage is also available - we’re happy to post your pieces for an additional P&P charge.
An accommodation list is available should you wish to stay nearby for your pottery weekend.
